Gulf African Bank

The situation

A licensed bank losing applicants to its own process.

Gulf African Bank had the license, the customers and the branch network. What it did not have was a way for a customer to open an account without ending up in a branch, or a way for staff and agents to open one on a customer's behalf in the field.

What we built

  • Full digitization of the onboarding journey for retail and business customers
  • Assisted fast onboarding by bank staff and third party agents, on a tablet, in the field
  • Instant account funding, so the customer onboards and transacts in minutes
  • Digital finance journeys for fast, reliable Islamic lending with minimal risk
  • Integration to the bank's existing core rather than a replacement

Why it moved quickly

The modules already existed and were already certified in other markets. The eight weeks went into integration, the bank's product and risk configuration, Shariah review, and user testing, not into building an onboarding engine from scratch.

Delivered

Under 8 weeks

From mobilisation to onboarding in user acceptance testing.

Structure

Milestone-gated delivery under a master partnership agreement. Success-based economics: a fee per successfully onboarded customer, and a further fee on activation.

Roadmap

Digital onboarding first, then the wider digital banking and financing stages, each gated on the one before.
